Toys That Could Be Classed As Sexist (Part 2)
So continuing the discussion on whether children’s toys are twisting their minds into vile sexist pigs is the big debate on whether it is okay for a boy to play with Barbie and a girl to play with an Action Man.
After looking into it a bit it would seem that if someone would walk in on a girl playing with a toy tank they would not be worried but a boy with action man would cause some big problems. But why is this?
Well this is actually down to the parents, a lot of fathers will not feel comfortable watching their lad playing with a Barbie doll but wouldn’t mind if their daughter was playing with an Action man simply because it makes the daughter a bit cool. There are so many parents out there that do not want their sons to turn out to be gay which is stupid in itself, playing with a Barbie doll doesnt change a thing.
It would certainly seem that most of these arguments are over the girls not being able to play with the boys toys yet it would seem that in reality it is the other way round. it is almost certain that this time it is the people we should be putting the blame onto and not the big corporate companies.
In my honest opinon there is no such thing as a toy that is sexist or even racist, even the golliwog wasnt made to be a racist toy. It is the reaction from the public that shapes the view of the toy. If they choose to believe it is sexist or racist then that is their choice but personally I do not feel that when a company are designing one of those Christmas toys that they actually set out to make it sexist in any way at all. It is you the consumer that must really decide this one.
